Supreme Court Sacks Bayelsa Governor-Elect, David Lyon 24-Hour To Inauguration
The Supreme Court of Nigeria on Thursday, February 13, ordered the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw the Certificate of Return issued to the governor-elect of Bayelsa state, David Lyon following the nullification of his election victory.
YaahooJournalist reports that Lyon of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won against the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Douye Diri in the November 16, 2019 governorship election in the state.
This online news medium understands that the order was given by a five-man panel of the apex court led by Justice Mary Peter-Odili.
YaahooJournalist reports that the Supreme court also ordered INEC to issue fresh certificates to candidates of the party with the next highest votes and with the required constitutional spread of votes.
The apex court upheld the November 12, 2019 judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja which had disqualified Lyon’s running mate, Degi-Eremienyo, in the election for submitting forged certificates to INEC.
