A tanker explosion has left several people dead in Zaria.

Newsone Nigeria reports that multiple fatalities have been reported following a tanker explosion at Dan Magaji, Zaria, Kaduna State, northern Nigeria, according to eyewitnesses.

This online news platform understands that the tanker explosion in Zaria occurred on Monday morning, August 11, 2025, at about 8:30 a.m. near Rochas Foundation School along the Kaduna–Kano expressway bypass, from Kwangila to Dan Magaji.

Eyewitnesses told security analyst Zagazola Makama, who disclosed the development in a post via his X handle, that the accident involved two fuel-laden tankers and two passenger-filled Golf cars. The collision triggered five loud explosions, followed by a massive fire and a thick cloud of smoke that covered the highway.

“All the occupants of the cars died on the spot, except one driver who survived but sustained severe burns,” a witness said.

Meanwhile, Newsone understands that emergency services and security personnel have cordoned off the area, advising motorists to avoid the route while rescue and recovery efforts continue.
