Tension in Abuja As FCTA Executes Wike’s Threat, Demolishes Multimillion Naira Duplex [Video]
FCTA has executed Wike’s threat by demolishing a multimillion Naira duplex in Abuja.
Newsone reports that the Federal Capital Territory Administration on Monday, August 28, 2023, demolished a multimillion-naira duplex located at Plot 226 Cadastral Zone, A02 Wuse 1, Wuse Zone 6 District, for building on an unapproved plot of land.
This online news platform understands that the Director of the Department of Development Control, Mukhtar Galadima, who addressed journalists on the matter, claimed that the building was said to belong to the late Alake of Egba Land, Oba Oye Lipede, but was taken over by Ibrahim Kamba and Ademu Teku, who constructed the duplex against all warnings.
The Director of the Department of Development Control noted that his team had to carry out extensive investigation to ascertain the original owner of the plot of land, given varying claims that were being put forth by the parties, adding that the FCTA will not consider the status of any defaulting developer, once development rules and regulations are violated.
His words: “We demolished the duplex because somebody built without valid title and building plan approval on someone else land. Investigation revealed that the developer is not the owner of plot, that is why we had to remove the building.
“We allowed the building to this stage before demolishing it, because we had to follow all the processes. He was served all the notices to stop work, but being a recalcitrant developer, he continued without heeding to the notices we served.
“After our investigation we ascertained the original allottee, so we have to remove it. We are going to consult the legal department to know the next action against the developer.”

Meanwhile, Newsone Nigeria reports that the demolition is coming days after the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike vowed that any house built in contravention of the city’s masterplan will be demolished.
The new minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) said this last Monday, August 21, 2023, soon after he was inaugurated as one of President Bola Tinubu’s ministers.
FCT Minister Wike said: “People who are distorting the masterplan of Abuja… too bad,” he said.
“If you know you have built where you are not supposed to build, it will go down. Be it a minister of anywhere, be it an ambassador… if you know you have developed where you are not supposed to, your house will go down.
“Those who have taken over the green areas to build, sorry. The green areas must come back.
“So if you know anyone involved, that has taken over the green areas or parks and turned them to restaurants, we will not accept that.
“If your father has done that, sorry. If your mother has done that, sorry. There’s nothing I can do. It will go down.
“There is refuse everywhere. Those who are paid for refuse collection, what are they doing?”
The FCT Minister also warned land speculators that a new sheriff is in town. “And those doing land marketing, the period for that is over,” he said.
“And those who have been given CofO (certificate of occupancy) and failed to develop, and they have become land speculators, the land is gone. I will revoke them.”
