Vice President Osinbajo’s Convoy In Fatal Accident, Death Recorded

Vice President Osinbajo’s convoy was involved in an accident on Friday, living one person dead.

NewsOne Nigeria reports that the accident happened while the Vice President was on his way to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

According to a source, one of the outriders in the convoy of Nigeria’s number two citizen died in the accident. Vice President Osinbajo was said to be heading to the airport ahead of a flight to Lagos when the incident happened.

Confirming the sad incident, Osinbajo’s media aide, Laolu Akande said in a statement:  “With grief in our hearts, we announce the death of one of the police escort riders on the Vice President’s convoy, Inspector Ali Gomina, aged 45, who was involved in a road accident while on official duty today.

“The accident occurred on the road to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. The Vice President, who is greatly saddened by this occurrence, has aborted the trip.

“The Vice President described Gomina as a diligent, hardworking and serious-minded officer who will be greatly missed by the team. He is survived by his wife, children and relatives.

“May his soul rest in peace,” the statement by the presidential spokesman added.

Meanwhile, NewsOne Nigeria reports that the accident is coming five days after the Vice President celebrated his 63rd birthday.
