President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated Governors Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Simon Lalong of Kano and Plateau States over their victories at the respective State Governorship Election Petition Tribunals.

YaahooJournalist had reported earlier that the Kano State Election Petition Tribunal delivered the final judgment on the Kano governorship election, affirming Governor Ganduje’s election in the process.

This online news platform understands that Plateau State Election Petition Tribunal in a similar way, delivered the final judgment on the Plateau governorship election, also affirming Governor Lalong’s election.

Reacting to the victories of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governors in a statement by Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President (Media & Publicity), Buhari extended his goodwill to the two northern governors.

President Buhari, who is travelling with the two APC governors to South Africa on a State Visit, extended his goodwill to the duo on Wednesday shortly before departure from the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

The statement reads as thus; “The President described the verdict of the tribunals as a victory for democracy, commending the people of Kano and Plateau States for maintaining the peace, allowing the due process of law to prevail and respecting the role of the judiciary in a democracy.

“With the elections and tribunals now behind, the President urged the governors to unite their States by focusing more on inclusive and accountable governance and ensuring that all APC programmes targeted at improving the welfare of Nigerians are fully implemented,” Shehu said.

The Presidential spokesman quoted President Buhari to have assured the governors that the Federal Government will continue to work with states to create economic growth that benefits everyone, and security for human lives, investments and the environment.
