‘Buhari You Do This One’… Reactions As Fans Link Morocco’s Defeat To Buhari

Football fans have linked Morocco’s defeat to France to President Buhari.

Newsone had reported earlier that reigning World Champions, France on Wednesday, December 14, 2022, defeated Africa’s last hope in the World Cup, Morocco, to earn a place in the FIFA World Cup 2022 Final.

This online news platform understands that Didier Claude Deschamps’s men defeated the Atlas Lions 2-0 in the semi-final of the World Cup 2022. Les Bleus achieved this feat thanks to 5th and 79th minutes goals from Theo Hernandez and substitute, Randal Kolo Muani.

Barely out of second gear, France won to make a consecutive FIFA World Cup final. A contest that was plenty of passion and lots of key Moroccan chances missed. A historic effort to reach the semis, but the Lions run out of ideas and will try for 3rd/the 4th place.

On Saturday, Morocco made history as the first African team to reach the World Cup semifinals with a 1–0 win over Cristiano Ronaldo’s Portugal.

Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari, in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu congratulated the Moroccan national football team, the Atlas Loins, on its advancement to the semi-finals of the ongoing FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, saying the team is capable of winning the tournament.

The President also lauded the country’s leadership, especially King Mohammed VI, for playing an exemplary role, which has now given the whole of Africa the hope that any country on the continent can win the coveted FIFA trophy.

“President Muhammadu Buhari congratulates the Moroccan World Cup team, the Atlas Lions, and the ruler of the country, King Mohammed the VI, on making history by becoming the fourth team from an African country to ever qualify for the World Cup quarterfinals, and the first to win a place in a semi-final at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

“President Buhari says Morocco has made the entire continent proud with their grit and dexterity, giving hope that an African team can indeed win, and should win the ongoing global championship in Qatar,” the statement added.

However, on Wednesday, France defeated Morocco thereby making sure President Buhari’s wish of seeing Morocco lift the FIFA World World did not see the light of day.

Reacting to the defeat, some football fans on the micro-blogging site, Twitter, linked Morocco’s failure to reach the FIFA World Cup 2022 final to President Buhari’s congratulatory message to the Atlas Lions.
