The Presidency has reacted to the results of the just-concluded by-elections in Nigeria.

Newsone Nigeria reports that the Presidency has mocked opposition leaders, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, and Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), following the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in last Saturday’s by-elections.

Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu, wrote on his X account on Monday morning: “How is the market now?” he asked, alongside Atiku, Peter Obi, and other ADC members in a photo.

Although the Presidential spokesperson did not mention names, it was clear he was referring to the opposition in the just-concluded by-elections in Nigeria.

The by-elections were held to replace lawmakers who died or resigned after the 2023 general elections. The All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria’s ruling party, won 12 out of the 16 bye-election seats held in August 2025.

Newsone recalls that the seats were contested across 12 states, with some reports listing 13, including Zamfara, where the election was inconclusive.

The APC won 12 seats, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) won 2, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won 1, and the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) won 1. The Zamfara seat was declared inconclusive.
