Newsone Nigeria reports that United States President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump tested positive for the coronavirus hours after the White House announced that senior aide Hope Hicks came down with the virus after traveling with the president several times this week.

The coronavirus status of the POTUS and FLOTUSwas confirmed in a tweet on the micro-blogging site, Twitter on Friday, October 2 by President Trump.

“Tonight, @FLOTUS and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!” Trump tweeted.

Trump’s coronavirus status is coming after he attacked Joe Biden of always wearing a mask during the US Presidential debate on Tuesday.

The US President had said: “I don’t wear masks like him (Biden). Every time you see him, he’s got a mask. He could be speaking 200 feet away and he shows up with the biggest mask I’ve ever seen.”

Meanwhile, Trump is 74 years old, putting him at higher risk of serious complications from a virus that has now killed more than 200,000 people nationwide.
