Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State.

Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has said he would not appeal his disqualification from Edo 2020 primaries by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

NewsOne Nigeria reports that the Screening Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria’s ruling party, has disqualified Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, from contesting in the party’s governorship primary election scheduled for June 22, 2020.

Prof. Jonathan Ayuba, the committee chairman, made the disclosure in a press conference on Friday afternoon.

The committee chairman said the governor did not present his Higher School Leaving Certificate.

He noted that the committee could not ascertain the authenticity of his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate.

The committee chairman said the committee recommended that he is not eligible to contest in the election.

Like Obaseki, Engr. Chris Ogiemwonyi was not cleared to contest over a discrepancy in the names on his credentials.

While Dr. Pius Odubu and Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu were cleared to contest.

Reacting to the disqualification in a tweet on the micro-blogging site, Twitter, Obaseki called on his supporters to remain calm.

The Edo State Governor tweeted: “We call on all party members and our teeming supporters to remain calm and await further directives, in the light of the announcement of my unjust disqualification to participate in @OfficialAPCNg primary election in Edo State by the screening committee.”
