‘Enough Is Enough’ – Concerned Yoruba Mothers Make Fresh Demands

The Concerned Yoruba Mothers Foundation, representa­tives of women in the South West Nigeria, have jointly lamented the insecurity challenges bedeviling Nigeria which they claimed has affected them in many ways.

Newsone reports that Concerned Yoruba Moth­ers raised the alarm when some representatives of the group with over five thou­sand members in all the South West states of the country, in­cluding Kogi, Kwara, and Edo, all in white attire converged in a popular event hall situated in Oke-Ado Ibadan, Oyo State, southwest Nigeria during the week.

This online news platform understands that the Concerned Yoruba Mothers called on past and current head of states on the urgent need to address the insecurity challenges facing Nigeria as they are sick of shedding endless tears over their love ones.

Addressing journalists, the National President/Coordina­tor of the group, Princess Oyeronke Akinlolu affirmed that the group is strongly advocating for the removal of the 1999 constitution and go back to 1963 constitution.

Princess Akinlolu noted that: “the sit­uation of the country requires us to speak up and speak out our minds. With due respect, our elder statesmen from ages of 80 and above should hon­ourably retire into council of Yoruba Elders that is (Agba Igbimo Agba Yoruba). They should be there for us in term of backing our struggles with advise and guidance.”

Calling for proactive lead­ership in Nigeria, the Concerned Yoruba Mothers National President said the elder statesmen should allow the younger ones to take over.

“The likes of Pa. Ayo Ade­banjo, Baba Fasoranti and others have been leading and championing our struggles in the Yorubaland since I was a kid. Now they all old, they need to rest. We need to speak out our minds by our­selves. No one can understand us better. What we are facing in the grassroots is beyond what they see. We are in the era of speaking up; this task is beyond their energy. We need vibrant Yoruba man between the age bracket of 40 and 60 who will go round and see things we are facing in the rural areas where we all belong to.”

She further said, “we the Concerned Yoruba Mothers Foundation use this medium to request that our elders should stop making any polit­ical statement on our behalf in Yoruba land. They should allow the masses of our land to take their destiny into their own hands. We requested that our leaders and elders within the age bracket of 60 -79 to call themselves together with the unity of purpose and give us a male and female as leaders which the masses can rally round and see as our leader, (Asoju of Yorubaland), be­cause those people within that age bracket are closer to the “Soro Soke Generation” that is, speak up generation. So we plead that all our Babas at ‘Igbimo Agba Yoruba’ should stop taking political decisions and making political state­ments on our behalf.

“We plead that all our roy­al fathers, retired military men, industrialists, religious leaders, professional bodies should join hands with Chief Olusegun Obasanjo to make our dear Yoruba land secure and great again, as we, their daughters are ready to cham­pion this cause of bringing them together.”

Princess Akinlolu lamented on the current disposition of Nigeri­an youth, blaming this on bad leadership in the West African country.

“We the Yoruba women and youths are not lazy but the situation of our coun­try has turned most of us to beggars.

“Married women and young girls are now into pros­titution. Most of our boys are now into Yahoo-Yahoo as internet fraudsters. This is a shame to us because this has never been part of our tradition and culture. Most of us here have lost our breadwinners to the hands of herdsmen. My husband was killed by herdsmen. We have lost most of our resources, and valuables, even lives of our loved ones to the bandit­ry, kidnappers, and terrorists and these have never been part of us before, enough is enough,” she said.
