Former President Buhari’s body has arrived in Nigeria from London for burial.
Newsone Nigeria reports that the remains of former President Muhammadu Buhari have arrived at the Umaru Musa Yar’Adua International Airport in Katsina State amid heavy security and emotional scenes.
This online news platform understands that former President Buhari, who passed away on Sunday in a UK clinic at the age of 82, is set to be buried later today in his hometown of Daura, Katsina state, under Islamic burial rites.
The body was received at the airport by a nine-man committee inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu to oversee the funeral arrangements.
Members of the committee include senior government officials, religious leaders, and representatives of the Armed Forces.
Also present to receive the former president was Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, who arrived earlier in the day, clad in black.
A somber mood enveloped the tarmac as military officers gave a brief ceremonial salute before the convoy departed for Daura, where final burial preparations are underway.
The Federal Government, led by President Bola Tinubu, had earlier declared a period of national mourning and a public holiday, and tributes have continued to pour in from across the globe, honoring Buhari’s legacy as a former military ruler and two-term civilian President.
