9 things to know before JAMB 2026 registration:
For candidates who will take the coming exam, this post will guide you on important steps you should take as we await the start of registration.
1. Get Your National Identification Number (NIN)
The National Identification Number (NIN) remains a compulsory requirement for all UTME/DE candidates. Candidates who do not yet have a NIN should visit an approved NIMC enrolment centre without delay to register. We’ve previously shared a step-by-step guide on how to get your NIN.
2. Ensure You Have a Registered Phone Number for Profile Code Creation
Before registering, you will need to generate a profile code by sending your NIN via a registered phone number to a shortcode provided by JAMB. Make sure you have a valid, registered phone number for this process. All future SMS updates from JAMB will be sent to this number, so ensure it’s your personal number or a phone number you easily have access to.
3. Set Up a Free Email Address
Your email address serves as a backup for your JAMB profile in case you lose access to your phone number. It is mandatory to provide an email address during registration. Setting up an email is quick and free.
4. Decide on the Course You Want to Study
This is the best time to choose the course you want to pursue. This decision requires thoughtful consideration, so don’t wait until the registration begins. Choose a course you are passionate about and have the academic aptitude for. Be sure to have a second-choice course in mind, as this can improve your chances of admission, and you’ll be required to fill it up during registration.
5. Choose the School You Want to Apply, and study your course in
Similarly, decide which school you intend to apply to before registration begins. Consider factors such as whether the institution offers your desired course, the admission requirements, school fees, and location. For a higher chance of success, consider having a backup option such as a polytechnic or college of education because they will be required while filling your JAMB registration form.
6. Know Your Subject Combination
Each course has a specific set of subjects required for admission. It’s essential to select the correct subject combination for your chosen course and institution. Many students make the mistake of choosing the wrong subjects, which can jeopardize their chances of admission.
7. Seek Guidance if Needed
If you are unsure about your choice of course, institution, or subject combination, don’t hesitate to ask for guidance.
8. Get familiar with the Registration Guidelines
The registration process is basically done in 3 steps namely:
Profile Code Generation → E-PIN vending from authorised channels e.g. banks → Registration at JAMB Approved CBT Centre
Important Tips:
- Correct all issues with your NIN and biodata (name, date of birth, gender, state of origin, etc.) at NIMC and confirm that the changes reflect before registration .
- Ensure your GSM number and email are unique and functional. They should not be changed, shared, or reused for other candidates.
- If you have biometric problems during registration, visit the nearest JAMB office. Do not allow any CBT centre to forcefully register you.
- Ensure that a dual screen is used during registration and confirm that your passport photograph and biometrics are captured correctly. Also ensure you cross-check details and ensure that all information is accurate before final submission by the registrant at the centre.
9. Start Preparing for the Exam
Start your study preparations now. Remember, it’s not just about studying hard; it’s about studying smart. Many questions in the UTME are repeated from past exams, so practicing past questions is crucial.
