Bode George has reacted to Governor Mbah’s defection to the APC.
Peter Mbah, who assumed office in 2023 as the governor of Enugu State on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria’s ruling party.
Newsone Nigeria reports that Governor Mbah officially dumped the PDP for APC in a televised broadcast on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.
Governor Mbah said, “Today, after a long reflection, we have made the decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party and join the All Progressives Congress.”
The Enugu Governor said he joined the APC to help transform Enugu and restructure the state’s political landscape.
“Today, I stand before you to announce a break from the past and to share a decision that will shape the road ahead.
“This concerns our values, how we organize ourselves politically and how we secure the future of our project and our people.
“Leadership sometimes demands painful decisions in the service of higher principles and goals. And there comes a time when everyone must make a bold choice to determine their destiny.”
CHARTING A NEW COURSE: TRANSITION FROM PDP TO APC
I want to begin by expressing a deep gratitude to God and Ndi Enugu…
For we are indeed at a moment of reflection, gratitude and renewal.

Reacting to the governor’s move, George, who spoke on Tuesday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, said he never saw it coming despite several interventions by party elders.
“I never saw it at any time. In fact, when Anyanwu was brought back as secretary to complete his assignment, he asked his people not to attend meetings.
“We were wondering what was going on in the South-East. Now that we have settled the matter and fixed the convention date, it’s only a question of time. Whatever position the East wanted to give him would have been his. So, what’s the essence of leaving now?” he said.
The party chieftain noted that several PDP leaders visited the governor to persuade him to remain in the party.
“The governor, we all waded in and convinced him. Many people went there, telling him, ‘Calm down, the convention is next month. You’ll get whatever is due to the South-East.’ But the rationale and emphasis he gave, it was like I was in a very long dream,” George said.
Bode George, a PDP BOT member, wished Mbah well but insisted that the PDP remained strong despite recent defections.
“I wish him the best of luck. This is not the first time people are leaving. The PDP is an iroko tree. I wish them the best,” he added.
