YaahooJournalist reports that the rate of insecurity has increased rapidly in the country with states such as Kaduna, Zamfara, Borno, Adamawa, Cross River, Edo among others being attacked by bandits and Boko Haram terrorists frequently.

Although the All Progressives Congress (APC) government led by President Muhammadu Buhari, says that Boko Haram insurgency has been technically defeated, the Islamic terrorist group and other bandits have continued to cause havoc in some states, raising doubts on the claim by the “Next Level” government of President Buhari.

Speaking on the possibility of Nigeria overcoming the current insecurity in the country, Ogiezee Otabor, a Deputy Commissioner of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), identified “community policing” as the solution to the current menace.

This online news platform understands that DCP Ogiezee Otabor identified community policing as a solution to the nation’s insecurity at a town hall meeting held recently in Auchi, Edo State, south-south.

Speaking on the topic: “Nigeria’s Insecurity and The Way Forward,” DCP Otabor stressed that community policing would rid bandits from various communities in the country.

“Securing the country starts from you, the individual, you don’t have to wait for the police or other security agencies before you act when you suspect foul play.  The first stage of providing security is helping the security agencies by not breeding criminals and bandits,” DCP Otabor said.

DCP Otabor continued: “When you see strange faces in your environment acting funny, you have to be security conscious by alerting the vigilante in your area to move into action.

“Today we are talking about Nigeria’s insecurity and the way forward, we must understand that we can’t secure the country without securing the small communities first where these bandits breed. Every bandit has a dwelling place and this is the community where they start operating before moving to dominate a bigger environment, this is why Nigeria needs community policing. If we have community policing it would make it easy for the security agencies to deal with insecurity in the country starting from the communities,” DCP Otabor opined.
