BREAKING: Lagos State Records 3 Coronavirus Deaths

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has cancelled the plan to impose curfew in Lagos over the outbreak of coronavirus (COVID-19).

Newsone Nigeria reports that the decision to cancel the planned curfew in Lagos over COVID-19 was disclosed in a terse statement on Saturday morning, March 28 by the Chief Press Secretary to the Lagos State Governor, Gboyega Akosile.

This burgeoning online news platform recalls that the Governor had indicated an interest in imposing curfew in Lagos during a live broadcast at the State House, Marina on Friday, March 27.

“We are moving to the direction of curfew, but there are indices and numbers we need to see, we haven’t seen that number yet to warrant a curfew.

“The disease is not a respecter of anybody. It doesn’t look at class, gender or race, everybody is at risk, that is why we need to obey the rules and regulations set for ourselves,” Governor Sanwo-Olu had said.

However, a statement on Saturday morning by his Chief Press Secretary, said the plan has been cancelled. Akosile said the Lagos state governor relied on “experts advice” to cancel the planned curfew in Lagos.

The statement reads as thus; “The Lagos state Governor dropped the idea of imposing a curfew in the state meant to allow the fumigation exercise of public space.

“Relying on experts advice, the Governor said the disinfectant is non-toxic, noting that the exercise has commenced.

“He said: “I am pleased to note that we have taken possession of over 200 disinfecting machines, and starting today, we will be disinfecting all major highways, bus stops, markets, parks and other public areas.

“The Governor also said during a live press conference that if there is a need for curfew, government will not hesitate to impose it.

“For now, everything remains the way they are,” the statement added.

Meanwhile, coronavirus in Nigeria has risen to 81 cases with the confirmation of 11 new cases on Friday night by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
