Lagos State Records 3 New Cases Of Coronavirus

Lagos State, Nigeria’s commercial city, has recorded 3 new cases of Coronavirus in Nigeria.

NewsOne Nigeria reports that the Lagos State Ministry of Health confirmed three new cases of coronavirus in the state on Monday afternoon, March 23.

This burgeoning online news platform understands that the three new cases of Coronavirus in Lagos brings the number of cases in the southwest state to 25.

Giving an update on the spread of the disease in the state via its Twitter handle, Lagos State Ministry of Health said: “Three new #COVID19 cases confirmed in Lagos.

“The first case is a Ukrainian who arrived in Nigeria on March 15 via a vessel.

“The second case is a United Kingdom-based Nigerian, who arrived in the country on March via BA75.

“Third case a UK-based Nigerian, who arrived Lagos on March 13 via TK625,” the tweet added.

Meanwhile, this is coming a few hours after Edo State recorded its first case of coronavirus.

NewsOne Nigeria reports that the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) confirmed the suspected Coronavirus (COVID-19) case as positive in a statement released on the micro-blogging site, Twitter on Monday, March 23.

This burgeoning online news platform understands that the first Coronavirus in Edo brings the number of cases of coronavirus in Nigeria to thirty-five (35) from its initial thirty (30).

Giving an update on the spread of the disease, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) tweeted: “Five new cases of #COVID19 have been confirmed in Nigeria: 2 in FCT, 2 in Lagos & 1 in Edo

“2 cases are returning travellers from the UK

“As at 09:45 am on 23rd March, there are 35 confirmed cases of #COVID19 in Nigeria. 2 have been discharged,” the tweet added.

In a related development, Nigeria has recorded its first coronavirus death.

NewsOne Nigeria reports that former managing director of Pipelines and Product Marketing Company (PPMC) Engr. Suleiman Achimugu has died after contracting coronavirus.

This burgeoning online news platform understands that Engr Achimgu is Nigeria’s first recorded death from coronavirus. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) described him as a 67-year old male who returned home following medical treatment in the United Kingdom.

“The 1st #COVID19 death in Nigeria has been recorded. The case was a 67-year-old male who returned home following medical treatment in UK.

“He had underlying medical conditions- multiple myeloma & diabetes & was undergoing chemotherapy. Our thoughts are with his family,” the tweet added.
