Nigeria’s Secret Police, DSS Gave Nnamdi Kanu Only Two Out Of Seven Bottles Of Prescribed Medications – Lawyer, Ejiofor Demands Urgent Medical Care

Kanu’s health has recently got worse, according to the IPOB lawyer.

Ifeanyi Ejiofor, lawyer to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has asked the Department of State Services (DSS), to allow family members to donate money to enable the IPOB leader receive urgent medical care.

The call was made on Monday by the pro-Biafran group’s counsel, Ejiofor, who had just returned from a routine court-ordered visit to the DSS headquarters in Abuja, where Kanu had been detained in solitary confinement for more than 14 months.

Kanu’s health has recently got worse, according to the IPOB lawyer.

In a statement on Monday, Ejiofor said, “The DSS in a feeble attempt at improvisation, in order to cure a serious health condition such as the one confronting Kanu, only succeeded in procuring two doses, out of the full dosage of seven bottles of the prescribed medications”.

Nnamdi Kanu’s release crucial to peace in South East –APC chief

The member of the House of Representatives, representing Aguata Federal Constituency of Anambra State, Chukwuma Umeoji, has charged the Federal Government to release detained leader of Indigenous People of Biafra ( IPOB) as means of addressing current security and social-economic challenges in the South East.

Umeoji, who is also the All Progressives Congress ( APC) senatorial candidate for Anambra South senatorial zone, said the Monday sit-at-home and mandatory sit-at-home any day Kanu is scheduled to appear in court, and the violence that accompanies the enforcement is crippling social-economic activities in the zone.

The lawmaker noted that the release of the IPOB leader will help to reduce political tension in the South East, as well as free the soldiers engaged in operations in area to be deployed to other parts of the country under constant attacks by terrorists. He added that of all the problems in the various geo-political zones across the country, that of the South East is the easiest to solve.

“ The government should as a matter of urgency do all within its powers to release Nnamdi Kanu from detention in view of the increasing concern about his health and prevent and save the total collapse of the economic and social activities in the South east.

According to him, “the Monday sit at home and the mandatory sit at home on court days have stifled economic activities. The violence accompanying the enforcement of the sit at home has made it impossible for people to visit the villages for social functions. The rural markets and the entertainment industry have collapsed since there is no capital flow from the urban areas. Most worrisome is the speed with which small and medium scale enterprise are migrating to other zones.

Nnamdi Kanu’s health: Don’t cross the ‘Red Line’ – IPOB warns

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has reacted to the health condition of its detained leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

In a statement obtained by Vanguard, Emma Powerful, the spokesperson of the group, threatened that the peace in Nigeria would never remain should anything happens to their leader.

Recall that Kanu’s lawyer, Mr. Ifeanyi Ejiofor, yesterday alleged that Kanu had not eaten for 2 days, and was in excruciating pains.

His words: “Today’s visit was centered on our curiosity to ascertain the DSS level of compliance with providing Onyendu the requisite medical treatment that would address his deteriorating health condition.

“Sadly, we made startling discovery that despite the alarm raised on Monday, calling for the intervention of responsible foreign Governments and institutions, on the DSS flagrant disobedience of Orders of Court, particularly in denying Onyendu access to his personal medical doctor and medication, the lawless DSS immediately resorted to local chemist store to procure substandard drugs to be administered on Onyendu.

“Since it is now obvious that the DSS does not have the facility, capacity and/or resources to manage Onyendu’s deteriorating health condition, we are compelled  to publicly implore the DSS, to allow us have Onyendu back unconditionally, or better still, allow us to purchase the prescribed drugs for Onyendu pending his unconditional release from their custody.

Nnamdi Kanu can’t eat, lawyer says, seeks release

The legal team of the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has demanded his immediate and unconditional release from custody of the Department of State Services, to enable him have access to medical personnel of his choice.

The demand was based on alleged excruciating pains on Kanu occasioned by his gastro intestine disorder.

Kanu’s lead lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, in a statement on Friday, in Abuja, said that the detained IPOB leader had not been able to eat in the past 48 hours due to his poor health status.

Ejiofor who issued the statement after another routine visit to Kanu in the custody of the Department of the State Service in Abuja explained that from all indications, the security agency had no facility to cope with health challenges of his client.

The statement read in part, “As usual, the court-ordered routine visit to our client – Nnamdi Kanu – was conducted today, at the Department of State Services’ Headquarters, Abuja, where Kanu is still being held in solitary confinement for over 14 months.

“Today’s visit was centered on our curiosity to ascertain the DSS level of compliance with providing Kanu the requisite medical treatment that would address his deteriorating health condition.

“Sadly, we made startling discovery that despite the alarm raised on Monday, calling for the intervention of responsible foreign governments and institutions, on the DSS flagrant disobedience of orders of court, particularly in denying Kanu access to his personal medical doctor and medication, the DSS immediately resorted to local chemist store to procure substandard drugs to be administered on Kanu.

“Since it is now obvious that the DSS does not have the facility, capacity and or resources to manage Kanu’s deteriorating health condition, we are compelled to publicly implore the DSS, to allow us have Kanu back unconditionally, or better still, allow us to purchase the prescribed drugs for Kanu pending his unconditional release from their custody.

“May we also seize this medium to inform the world that Kanu has not eaten anything in the past 48 hours due to the concomitant excruciating pains occasioned by his gastro intestine disorder, which the DSS have deliberately failed to avail him with the prescribed possible medical relief.

“With this development, we are now convinced that the Federal Government is ostensibly afraid of the anticipated positive outcome of the Court of Appeal’s judgment.

“Hence, they are doing everything possible to subject our client – Kanu, to severe torture, inhumane and degrading treatment before he finally regains his freedom.”

Ohanaeze raises the alarm over Nnamdi Kanu’s health

Apex Igbo sociocultural group, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, has raised the alarm over the alleged deteriorating health of the detained Leader of the Independent Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

The alarm followed an earlier report from Ifeanyi Ejiofor, the IPOB’s Attorney, which indicated that “Nnamdi Kanu is suffering from gastro intestinal illness, which necessitates the constant use of antacids and other available medical treatments”.

He added: “The DSS has refused to allow him have even the smallest amount of the prescribed painkiller, which could have given him short-term respite.

“The DSS has repeatedly treated the existing court order—which specifically directed that Nnamdi kanu should be granted access to his doctor for an independent review/investigation of his current health status—with the utmost contempt and disdain”.

Ohanaeze, which expressed concern over the report of Kanu’s health, warned that the security situation in the Southeast would worsen if anything happens to the IPOB leader in detention.

SSS blocks Sowore from meeting Nnamdi Kanu in detention

The State Security Service (SSS) on Thursday blocked the 2023 presidential candidate of African Action Alliance (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, from accessing the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, in detention.

Mr Kanu, facing trial for charges of terrorism and treasonable felony before the Federal High Court, Abuja, is being held in the SSS facility.

While the IPOB leader is to remain in detention till the court gives its verdict on his case, there is a subsisting court order that permits any three persons of his choice to see him daily.

The court order was made to the above effect on the 21 October, 2021.

It is in line with the order that Mr Kanu’s solicitors, Ugochinyere Chambers, forwarded Mr Sowore’s name among the three persons slated to see the IPOB leader in detention on Thursday.

The other two names on the document seeking permission for the visit from the office of the Director General of the SSS, are Chinwe Umeche, who is Mr Kanu’s counsel, and one Odozie Anyanwu, an evangelist.

Mr Sowore in a thirty second video clip confirmed he was denied access to the IPOB leader even after waiting for over three hours.

“Ladies and gentlemen, this is the headquarters of the DSS (now SSS) where I just came to see Nnamdi Kanu and I was denied the opportunity to see him. I waited for three hours, I was invited by members of his legal team only to get here and they said they have closed even though we arrived here on time by 2 p.m.

“I want to make another trial, there is nothing they can do about it, they have to free Kanu,” the AAC presidential candidate claimed in the short video.

Don’t use militia against people, IPOB urges Soludo

The Indigenous People of Biafra has urged the Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, to desist from using Ebubeagu militia, including vigilantes against innocent people in the state.

This is just as the pro-Biafran group insists that Soludo secretly set up Ebubeagu in Anambra, and nicknamed them vigilantes while using it to eliminate IPOB members.

The group made these claims in a statement on Wednesday by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful.

Stating that the true intention of the governor through Ebubeagu has been revealed, the group further stated that the governor should be held responsible for whatever happened in the state as they warned to stop using the militia in profiling Biafrans and eliminating them simply because they have paintings or tattoos on their body.

The statement read in part, “Our attention has been drawn to the reckless and unjustifiable murder of innocent citizens of Biafra in Anambra State, by the secret militia and Ebubeagu security outfit created by the state governor.

Britain owes Igbo apology, compensation for Biafra’s destruction – Prof Anya

Nigerian-born American lecturer, Uju Anya, has been in the eye of the storm since her tweet wishing the late Queen Elizabeth   II ‘excruciating death’. The professor of Second Language Acquisition, Department of Modern Languages, Carnegie Mellon University, United States of America tells GODFREY GEORGE she spoke from a place of deep pain and is unapologetic about her post.

Your tweet wishing the late Queen Elizabeth II an ‘excruciating death’ sparked outrage from many quarters around the world. Are you regretful you made that post?

No, I am not, I have to be very honest with you. I am not. My tweet came from a place of deep pain and deep emotions. It was not something that I planned or calculated. It was spontaneous and was part of my emotional reaction to the impending death of my oppressor. It was spontaneous at the time. However, it is not something I regret or something that I will ever apologise for. I will rest, sleeping every night, knowing that I told the truth.

You mentioned that your ancestors suffered in the Biafran war, for which you hold the British responsible. Can you give some details of the kind of experience your people went through?

It was not just my ancestors, but also my immediate and living relatives. There were family members who died but there are also people who are still alive today who survived the genocide. This is because this is a very recent history and a recent memory. The war ended in 1970, and many people who witnessed it are still alive today. I was born in ’76 and I lived in the aftermath of the war. My family suffered and some died. It was traumatic. My parents are dead now, but I have siblings alive today who went through Biafra as children. They were under the age of 10. Our family also has a war baby. My mother was pregnant during the war and gave birth to my second oldest brother in Biafra. So, this is something that is extremely close to me, and it is in my personal existence and in addition to the overall history of my family and the broader history of the Igbo people.

Biafra Activist Nnamdi Kanu Critically Sick In DSS Custody

Biafra activist Nnamdi Kanu critically sick in DSS custody, his lawyer has confirmed.

Newsone reports that Ifeanyi Ejiofor, counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has said his client has been diagnosed with a gastrointestinal disorder.

This online news platform understands that the news of Nnamdi Kanu being critically sick in DSS custody was made known in a statement issued on Monday, September 19, 2022.

Barrister Ejiofor in a statement on Monday said the development followed persistent heartburn earlier experienced by the secessionist leader, who has been in custody for months now.

According to Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer, despite the order of Justice Binta Nyako of a Federal High Court in Abuja that Kanu should be given serious medical attention, the Department of State Services, DSS has been acting on the contrary.

Nnamdi Kanu’s Judgment: Metuh calls for prayers

Former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Olisa Metuh, has called for fervent prayers by well-meaning Nigerians for God to intervene and grant Mazi Nnamdi Kanu freedom through the law court.

Metuh, who was also the PDP National Vice-chairman (South East) demanded unconditional freedom for Nnamdi Kanu, stressing that such will restore peace and normalcy to the South East region with a multiplier positive effect on the entire country.

The former PDP Spokesperson who stated this in a statement on Sunday also decried the “maltreatment and systemic extortion” of South Easterners by unscrupulous operatives in security agencies and government establishments.

According to Metuh, “in the light of the deplorable security situation in the South-East, there is need for unconditional freedom for Nnamdi Kanu to restore peace and normalcy to the region. Peace in the southeast will have a multiplier effect in the entire country.

“The truth is that many people are not happy with the way and manner Mazi Nnamdi Kanu was abducted in a foreign country and brought to Nigeria in chains to face all kinds of charges. Nnamdi Kanu is viewed by many as suffering for highlighting the plight of the Igbos in present Nigeria”, he said.

Terrorism: Kanu receives legal team in DSS custody

The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has received his legal team in the custody of the Department of State Services and expressed optimism that the terrorism charges against him will be quashed by the Court of Appeal.

The legal team on a routine visit granted by Justice Binta Nyako of a Federal High Court in Abuja was led by Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN) and another lawyer, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, accompanied by some of the IPOB leader’s family members.

The aim of the visit was to give the detained Biafra nation agitator feedback on the Court of Appeal’s proceedings of September 13 where the legal team prayed the appellate court to dismiss the remaining seven charges of terrorism and treasonable felony brought against him by the Federal Government.

Ejiofor, in a statement issued on Friday after the visit, said Kanu was in high spirit and confident that the Court of Appeal in Abuja would discharge and acquit him from the terrorism charges.

According to him, Kanu used the visit to send words of appeal to his followers, especially the Umuchineke, to remain consistent, resolute, unshaken, focused and prayerful with the hope that there must be light at the end of the tunnel.

Nnamdi Kanu: Appeal Court reserves judgment, adjourns indefinitely

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory on Tuesday, has reserved judgment on the case against the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.

Human rights Lawyer, Mike Ozekhome (SAN), who led the delegation of legal practitioners representing the IPOB leader, urged the court to strike out the remaining charges citing a lack of credibility.

Ozekhome specifically prayed the appellate court to review the April 8 ruling of the trial court which struck out only eight out of the 15 charges.

He also insisted that the charge FG entered against him had no basis in law. Kanu, in his appeal dated April 29 and marked CA/ABJ/CR/625/2022, applied to be discharged and acquitted.

However, following an application the embattled IPOB leader filed for abridgement of time, the appellate court brought the matter forward for hearing as against the initial October 11 fixed for the hearing.

When the matter was called up today, a three-man panel led by Justice Jummai Hanatu, said it had no need to delve into the issue of bail since the substantive appeal was ripe for hearing.

Arguing the appeal claim, Ozekhome alleged that his client was forcefully abducted from Kenya and illegally renditioned back to the country.

He told the court that his client was first arraigned on December 23, 2015 and was later granted bail on April 25, 2017.

“My lords, he was enjoying this bail without breaching the terms. However, he was in his ancestral home when agents of the respondent invaded his home in September 2017.

“When the Appellant travelled from London to Kenya, agents of the respondents, on June 27, 2021, forcefully abducted the appellant, tortured and renditioned him back to the country without following any extradition process,” Ozekhome added.

IPOB celebrates Catalans independence, says Biafrans freedom no longer in doubt

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) congratulated the Catalans for their annual Independence celebration on September 11, 2022.

The group also commended them for successful and peaceful celebrations of their freedom.

In a statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary Emma Powerful IPOB said the Catalans displayed readiness to be on the side of Biafrans to achieve a Sovereign Independence State of Biafra.

The separatist group expressed hope of matching into its own freedom in no distant time, insisting that Biafra’s freedom is no longer in doubt.

The statement reads: “We wish to congratulate the Catalans for their Annual Independence celebration of Catalonian Nation held on 11th September 2022. We commend Catalans for the successful and peaceful celebrations of their freedom.

“Catalans have suffered for almost a decade in the fight for their liberation but this time God Almighty has given them freedom from the people of Spain.

“IPOB and Biafrans pray for wisdom, knowledge and courage to sustain their New Nation.

“Biafrans are celebrating with you as we hope to match into our own freedom in no distant time. The Catalans have displayed their readiness to be on the side of Biafrans to achieve Sovereign Independence State of Biafra.

“Biafra freedom is no longer in doubt. It is a matter of little time. Biafra will get their freedom with the help of numerous friends and Allies across the world.

“Dear Catalans, we celebrate your doggedness and resoluteness which has paid off. Once again congratulations on the Annual Independence Celebration.”
