Members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have attacked the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, in Madrid, Spain, months after attacking Ike Ekweremadu, a former Deputy Senate President.

YaahooJournalist reports that IPOB members attacked Amaechi on Friday, December 6 while he was on a national assignment.

The minister disclosed this in a tweet on the micro-blogging site, Twitter.

In the message, the Transportation Minister said the attackers were repelled by the Spanish police.

“Some minutes ago, I was attacked by a few misguided Nigerians while on national assignment at a climate change event in Madrid, Spain,” he said.

“They were quickly repelled by the Spanish police before they could do any harm. I am fine. I was not hurt. Thanks for your support & prayers.”

The attack was confirmed to have been carried out by IPOB members, Emma Powerful, IPOB spokesman, made the confirmation.

Meanwhile, Yaahoojournalist reports that the attack on Amaechi is coming four months after IPOB members attacked Ekweremadu in Nuremberg, Germany.

The attack in its wake, generated a lot of controversies in Nigeria and outside the shores of the country, with politicians coming out to strongly condemn the action of the pro-Biafra group.

However, IPOB maintained that it would continue to attack “bad” Nigerian leaders attending any event outside the country.

Responding to the threat, Amaechi, a former governor of Rivers State, south-south Nigeria, dared members of the group in August, to attack abroad.

Amaechi, who was in a moving train when he made this comment, told the interviewer that he would apply self-defence in the face of any such attack.

When the interviewer told Amaechi that politicians are now afraid of traveling abroad, he responded, “What do you mean by that? Scared of who self-defence to Geneva, let them come. You know, there’s what they call self-defence.

“How can you say politicians are afraid of traveling abroad? I’ll go to America, the UK any place I have functions to attend,” Amaechi had said in August.
