Live Updates: First Bayelsa Governorship Election Result Emerges

The first Bayelsa Governorship Election result has emerged from the ongoing election in the south-south state.

YaahooJournalist reports that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) commenced the Bayelsa Governorship Election on Saturday, November 16, around 8:00 am amidst tight security.

The election is holding in in eight (8) Local Government Areas (LGA), 2,244 polling units and voting points in the south-south state.

Below are the names of the 8 local government areas…

  • Brass.
  • Ekeremor.
  • Kolokuma/Opokuma.
  • Nembe.
  • Ogbia.
  • Sagbama.
  • Southern Ijaw.
  • Yenagoa.

According to the register released by INEC, 867,088 voters who collected their Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) participated in the governorship election today.

Forty-five (45) political parties and candidates are registered for the Bayelsa governorship election but two; the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria’s ruling party and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nigeria’s main opposition party, have been identified by political analysts as the main contenders for the Bayelsa election with David Lyon of the APC and Douye Diri (PDP candidate) for the state.
