NewsOne Nigeria reports that a famous Nigerian Reggae artist Majekodunmi Fasheke popularly known as Majek Fashek is dead.
The Nigerian reggae legend Majek Fashek died at the age of 57 on Monday, 1 June 2020. Majek Fashek died in his sleep in New York, United States of America (USA) after being ill for some time. The cause of Majek Fashek death is not clear but he died in a New York hospital.
Fashek’s manager confirmed the death of the reggae legend, writing on social media network, Instagram that it was “a time for us all to celebrate his achievements, and not mourn.”
Though the cause of the death of the Send Down The Rain crooner is still not clear, Joy Tongo, the former Manager of Cynthia Morgan, who broke the news on Instagram, wrote: “Legendary musician, Mr Majek Fashek has passed on today in New York City. Majek Fashek was a talented man from my home town Benin City, Edo State. RIP”
Before his death, Reggae legend was famous worldwide, he was one of the singers that put Nigeria on the global map. He worked with big musicians like Beyonce, Snoop Dogg, Tracy Chapman, Jimmy Cliff and Michael Jackson.
“He’s done a lot for Nigeria and Africa,” his manager said.
Majek Fashek has been ill for some time but the cause of his death is not clear.
His Manager, OMENKA Uzoma said: “Today been having pressure calls, well it is true that the African No 1 Legendary ICON has gone to be with the LORD his Maker. Let celebrate him, his achievements and his family, whatever decisions made by his immediate family will be notified.”
