Newsone had reported earlier that Dr. Chike Akunyili, husband to late former Information Minister, Prof. Dora Akunyili, has been murdered by gunmen.
This online news platform understands that Dora Akunyili husband was killed at Umuoji in Idemili North LGA of Anambra State on Tuesday evening, September 28.
Though details of the incident are still sketchy, a source close to the family said the deceased was still at the University of Nigeria Nsukka Alumni Association (UNAA) where the late Dora was honoured some hours before he was killed, a report by The Nation online revealed.
The report quoted the source, who was shattered by the murder, to have said: “God, pls render the devil and his agents powerless and useless.
“I was with this man yesterday same yesterday at Sharon Hall, All Saints Cathedral, Onitsha. It was an occasion of University of Nigeria Nsukka Alumni Association (UNAA), Onitsha branch event where they honoured late Dora Akunyili.
“He spoke glowingly about Dora and made a donation of 500k to the association.
He was there with his son ,Obum now working with Anambra state government.
“We saw them off to the car and it was emotional when Obum hugged him tight as both of them separated to join their respective vehicles.
“Obum was in a white Hilux while the man was in a big Jeep (i think Prado). God have mercy!”

Hours after the murder of Dora Akunyili husband, a secessionist group, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) was accused of being responsible for the gruesome murder of the medical doctor.
Reacting to the accusation, the IPOB through a statement by Emma Powerful, its spokesperson, said those who poisoned the late Dora are responsible for Chike’s death.
The statement reads as thus; “Those who killed Dora Akunyili’s husband killed his wife with poison are Fulani because she exposed Yar’adua’s death for Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to take over as President of failed Nigeria. They know themselves, Those that conspired to poisoned prof. Dora Akunyili, they’re contesting the governorship election in Anambra State today.
“We have no issues with Chike Akunyili and we don’t know him, those behind this act must stop this and stop using IPOB name, we don’t want anybody to blame IPOB because we must get them, this is pure political assassination going on in Anambra State now and it been perfected by Nigeria DSS security agents are doing this to paint IPOB back in the face of support and encouragement we are getting from our people.
“We know their plans and gimmick to discourage Biafrans who are encouraging and supporting us but it can’t work for them, in the near future those committing these atrocities in Imo and Anambra state will hear from IPOB and our people should not blame us because we must get them.”
