1. The Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, on Tuesday, received a fresh order to probe the newly retired CJN over the allegations of corruption levelled against him by 14 Supreme Court Justices. President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, mandated the Committee led by Senator Opeyemi Bamidele to probe the allegations against the CJN and the crisis presently rocking the judiciary.
2. Kabiru Masari, running mate to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has told the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that his original certificates are missing. The development comes amid the controversy over the primary and secondary school certificates of Tinubu.
3. The Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mele Kyari, has said the country’s moribund refineries cannot be quickly restored. Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday when he appeared before the House of Representatives Joint Committee on Petroleum Resources (Downstream), Kyari said the situation was regrettable, but the NNPC was making efforts to bring the refineries back to work.
4. Three people have been reportedly killed and over 2,250 houses destroyed by floods and windstorm in five LGAs of Kano State. The Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr Saleh Jili, revealed this in an interview with newsmen.
5. Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto and President General, Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), has directed the Muslim Ummah to look out for the new moon of Dhul-Hijjah as from Wednesday. The Sultan made the call in a statement signed by Prof. Sambo Junaidu, Chairman, advisory committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sokoto.
6. Bandits have abducted the Medical Director of Dansadau General Hospital in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State. The CMD of the hospital, Dr Mansur Muhammad, was kidnapped at Mashayar Zaki, a dreaded spot along the 100 km Gusau-Dansadau road.
7. The trial of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu on terrorism charges has been shifted till November 14 by a Federal High Court in Abuja. The trial was put on hold by Justice Binta Nyako following the appeal instituted against the high court order upholding seven count charges against Kanu.
8. The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) have thrown their weight behind Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi. NLC and TUC made the pledge in separate addresses on Tuesday in Abuja.
9. President Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday, in Abuja met some All Progressives Congress, APC, senators who were aggrieved over the outcome of primary elections in their respective States. The President begged the lawmakers to keep faith with the party, stressing that their defection would affect the APC as the majority in the National Assembly.
10. Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun has called on Yorubas in Nigeria to prepare themselves physically and spiritually against terrorists. The monarch spoke yesterday at a meeting with the Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams.
