1. The Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) has succumbed to pressure and has suspended its eight-month-old industrial action. The union made the decision after National Executive Committee, NEC met yesterday.
2. Ex-Big Brother Naija housemate, Rico Swavey died on Thursday after he was involved in a ghastly motor accident. The development plunged his fans into mourning early hours of yesterday.
3. In a move aimed at consolidating his foothold in states controlled by the five aggrieved governors, chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party have started wooing loyalists of Governors Nyesom Wike of Rivers State; Seyi Makinde (Oyo State), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia State), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu State) and Samuel Ortom (Benue State). It was gathered that the move was meant to reduce the influence of the governors in determining the course of balloting in the general elections.
4. At least one person was shot dead and another abducted by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on Wednesday on Gana Street in the Maitama area of the Federal Capital Territory. Confirming the incident on Thursday, the FCT police spokesperson, Josephine Adeh, said the police were investigating the incident.
5. A 40-year-old woman, Folasade Badejo, has been allegedly killed by her husband, Oluranti Badejo, at their house in Orimerunmu, Mowe, in the Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State. It was learnt that Folasade, a fashion designer, on Wednesday, got into an argument with her husband over the payment of their three children’s school fees.
6. The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested two people possessing two human skulls and some bones. Officials of the command also arrested a man named Dauda Yakubu, said to be the one the skulls were brought for.
7. The Court of Appeal in Abuja on yesterday declared as illegal and unlawful, the abduction of the Biafra nation agitator, Nnamdi Kanu from Kenya to Nigeria and quashed the entire terrorism charges brought against him by the Federal Government. He was discharged from the custody of the Department of State Services, DSS
8. Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has reiterated the call to remove Iyorchia Ayu as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. Wike explained that he has accepted Atiku Abubakar as the presidential candidate of PDP and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Rivers State as the party’s running mate, but Ayu must resign.
9. Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai says there have been positive changes in the security situation of the state over the past six weeks. He said yesterday that the deployment of Special Forces by the military is reducing the level of attacks in the state.
10. The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has disclosed that the Dangote Petroleum Refinery is now 97 per cent completed. The refinery, with 650,000 barrels per-day installed capacity, is expected to double the total output of Nigeria’s existing ailing refining infrastructure and meet 100 per cent of the country’s requirement of all refined products.
