1. One year after the National Economic Council chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo directed States to pay compensation to the victims of police brutality in the country, indications show that many States have yet to comply with the directive. It was gathered that only Lagos, Osun, Ekiti and the Federal Capital Territory have complied with the NEC resolution.

2. The government of Kogi State has initiated legal actions against the Dangote Cement Plc over the ownership of its cement plant in Obajana, a town located in the Oworo district of Lokoja Local Government Area. According to a copy of the originating summons marked HcL/8T/2022, the suit was lodged at the Kogi State High Court, Lokoja Judicial Division.

3. The United States Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), has disclosed that a total number of 1.9 million Nigerians are living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV). Country Director of CDC, Dr Mary Boyd who made the disclosure in Abuja, however, said the affected Nigerians have access to free treatments to save their lives and allow them to live healthy productive lives.

4. Some activists yesterday said they are set to hold rallies to commemorate the second anniversary of the #EndSARS protests at the Lekki tollgate and other parts of the country today (Thursday). But the police in their reaction warned against violence during the protest.

5. Following the continuous decline of the Naira, the Bank of America has projected that the official exchange rate could likely devalue to N520/$ in 2023. According to the bank, this is expected to happen because the Naira is well above fair value.

6. The military has warned politicians against using military personnel, their activities, uniforms or accoutrements as themes or for illustration of message in political advertisements or any such productions. Director, Defence Information, Maj.-Gen. Jimmy Akpor, gave the warning in a statement in Abuja, yesterday.

7. The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday night released the final list of its Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2023 poll. Secretary of the Campaign Council, James Faleke, had released a list of 422-member Campaign Council to be chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari but critical stakeholders of the party, including governors, rejected the composition of the Campaign Council.

8. The Speaker, Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Funminiyi Afuye, has passed on. Afuye, who represented Ikere constituency 1, died after a brief illness on Wednesday. He was aged 66.

9. The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has blamed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the violence which broke out at the rally of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in Kaduna on Monday. Atiku had raised the alarm over the incident and asked President Muhammadu Buhari to call other political parties to order.

10. The construction of the Second Niger Bridge is complete, according to Babatunde Fashola, Minister of Works and Housing. Fashola said this at the unveiling of President Muhammadu Buhari’s scorecard series (2015-2023) on Wednesday in Abuja.
