Nigerian Army Reveals Number Of Soldiers Killed By Boko Haram In Garkida Attack

The Nigerian Army has released more details of the encounter between its troops and Boko Haram terrorists in Garkida, a town in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State, northern Nigeria.

NewsOne Nigeria had previously reported that Boko Haram fighters on Friday, February 21, invaded Garkida town around 7 pm shooting sporadically. The terrorists also killed many people while burning down several houses and property during the attack which reportedly lasted several hours.

This online news platform understands that the free reign of the terrorists was interrupted by troops of the Nigerian Army of 232 Battalion of 23 Armoured Brigade under Operation Lafiya Dole who arrived the town and repelled the insurgents, killing many of them while others escaped with serious injuries.

Garkida Boko Haram Attack

Giving details of the attack, the army in a statement, said: “Gallant troops of 232 Battalion of 23 Armoured Brigade under Operation LAFIYA DOLE deployed in Garkida, Gombi LGA of Adamawa State, had thwarted a planned criminal attack on the peaceful town on 21 February 2020 by some criminal Boko Haram Terrorists.

“The terrorists besieged the town in about 7 Gun Trucks and a number of motorcycles, setting some buildings ablaze and causing unrest within the community.

“Instinctively, the gallant troops mobilized and intercepted the criminals’ advance and engaged the marauding criminals unleashing high volume of fire, leading to the elimination of several of the criminals while others withdrew in disarray, many of them with gunshot wounds as evident in the trails of blood along their withdrawal route, a statement released by the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations for 23 Brigade Maj. Haruna Sani noted.

The statement however further revealed that one of the army personnel was killed and another one wounded during the fight with the terrorists who stormed the area in about seven gun trucks and a number of motorcycles.

“Regrettably, one gallant soldier paid the supreme price while another soldier was wounded in action. The wounded in action soldier has since been evacuated to a military medical facility and is positively responding to treatment,” the army statement reads in part.
