1. The Federal Government-funded Phase 1 of the National Mass Metering Programme, NMMP, slated to commence in August appears to have been mired in uncertainty, as it was learnt that it had been put on hold following allegations of fraud by the Central Bank of Nigeria against some of the Meter Asset Providers, MAPs.

2. A Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State, has ordered the remand of a suspect, Ibrahim Hamza, in prison, for allegedly trading in human parts. Hamza, who was arrested by the police at the Balogun Fulani Motor Park, Ilorin, about three weeks ago, was alleged to be in possession of a human skull.

3. Tension is mounting in Ogbunike, in the Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, following the killing of a 40-year-old woman, Mrs Nkiru Okoye. It was gathered that the deceased, who was the wife of a mechanical engineer, Emenike Okoye, was allegedly beaten to death by her brother-in-law, George Okoye, over disputed landed property.

4. Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have intercepted 2,750,000 tablets of tramadol 225mg weighing 1,650 kilogrammes, worth N1, 375,000,000 at the Apapa seaport in Lagos. It was learnt that the consignment, packed in 55 cartons of tapentadol and carisoprodol types of tramadol, was seized during the examination of a container on Saturday.

5. The family of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has called on the international community to intervene and compel Nigeria to promptly and unconditionally release Kanu and refrain from further persecution of the proscribed group. This was contained in a statement signed by the head of the family, Mazi Kanunta Kanu on behalf of the Kanu Family.

6. The ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, has advocated the need to allow Nigerians in the diaspora exercise their franchises in future elections without having to leave their countries of residence. Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the party, Yakubu Murtala Ajaka, made the advocacy at the weekend in London during a town hall meeting with young Nigerians in diaspora.

7. The Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) is reportedly behind the attack on a military checkpoint in the Madalla area of Suleja LGA, Niger State. Gunmen had on Friday attacked soldiers of the Guards’ brigade stationed near Zuma rock.

8. There was anxiety in Abeokuta, Ogun State, on Sunday, following the arrest of a suspected Boko Haram leader. The suspect was arrested by the operatives of the Department of State Security Service (DSS).

9. The Police Command in Lagos State has placed its operatives on red alert over alleged plans to attack the State. This is contained in a statement issued on Sunday by the command’s spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin.

10. The Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors (ANED) in a statement yesterday, blamed the Federal Government for failing to provide a N400 billion fund and other promises after the 2013 privatisation to ensure the Distribution Companies (DisCos) improve services.
