1. President Muhammadu Buhari has called for global attention to the floods in Pakistan. The President, in a statement issued Saturday by his spokesman, Garba Shehu, extended sympathies for the sea-like flooding in the country, describing it as the worst natural disaster in the country’s history.

2. The Sokoto State Police Command has said its men are still searching for the suspected killers of a student of the Shehu Shagari College of Education, Deborah Samuel. Samuel was stoned to death in May 2022, by some students believed to be her classmates over allegations of blasphemy.

3. Some terrorists on Wednesday allegedly invaded a farm in Anchau town, Kubau Local Government Area of Kaduna State where a soldier was killed and two farm workers abducted. It was learnt that among those abducted by the terrorists during the attack was a Zimbabwean.

4. A Christian woman was on Saturday night shot dead by gunmen in Riyom Local Government of Plateau State. The deceased identified as Lyop Dalyop was said to have been killed shortly after returning from Church on Saturday. The incident, it was further gathered, occurred in Bachi community around 8 pm.

5. Anambra has created a family court to checkmate violence against women and the girl child. The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Children Development, Mrs Ify Obinabo, said this on Saturday in Awka.

6. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, will be in Kano on Sunday to receive Senator representing Kano Central, Ibrahim Shekarau, back to the PDP. Shekarau had dumped the PDP for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the buildup to the 2019 elections.

7. The Nigerian Army has dismissed two soldiers attached to 241 Recce Battalion, Nguru, Yobe State, after finding them guilty on a two-count charge. According to the Acting Commanding Officer of the Battalion, Lt. Col. Ibrahim Abdullahi Osabo, the suspects were found guilty of failure to perform military duties and conduct to prejudice of service discipline.

8. The police in Jigawa State have arrested two suspected kidnappers and rescued a 45-year-old man, Muhammad Sama’ila at Nisan Marke village in Ringim local Government after he was kidnapped. Spokesman of the Command, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued.

9. Exactly one month to the commencement of campaigns for the presidential and National Assembly elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission has warned political parties and candidates against the use of masqueraders, public facilities and religious centres for campaigns. Chairman of the Committee on Information and Voter Education, Mr Festus Okoye gave the warning in an interview yesterday.

10. The presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has said he has the backing of the President, Muhammadu Buhari, to lead Nigeria in 2023. He commended Buhari for his ‘loyalty and commitment to the party, even as he expressed confidence in APC’s “victory in the February 25 presidential polls”.
