NYSC Member Celebrates Birthday With Sokoto Orphans (Photos)
Adedoyin Damaris, the founder of Damaris foundation and a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Sokoto State, northern Nigeria, celebrated her birthday earlier today with orphans in the state.
YaahooJournalist reports that Damaris, who is in her mid-twenties, celebrated her birthday at the Sokoto State Orphanage home on Friday, September 6.
During the celebration, the Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) graduate, presented gifts as well as provisions for the children at the orphanage home.
Apparently excited by the gesture, Sarau Labbo, the Receiving Officer at the Orphanage home, thanked Damaris foundation for “reaching out to the orphans.”
Labbo also pleaded with the foundation to “keep supporting the orphanage home,” adding that the home has been neglected by many, “except for few organizations like this (Damaris foundation), who have paid them a visit.”
On her part, Damaris told YaahooJournalist that the next plan for her foundation is to “visit the Almajiris,” adding that “subsequent visitations will be every three months and it will be to different parts of the country.”
“Our Next visitation will also be to the handicapped schools,” she told YaahooJournalist.
Asked what inspired her decision to open the foundation, Miss Adedoyin said: “When I was a kid, I was asked what I want to be in future and my reply was “PHILANTHROPIST,” I don’t think I knew what it meant at the time, or maybe I just loved the big grammar, but I know I grew up having soft spot for children.”
“The situation, however, changed and I later realized that being a philanthropist isn’t a fulltime carrier and I needed the money to pursue my dreams and that was how I pursued my education and NYSC brought me to Sokoto and I don’t regret any moment,” she added.
