Police Deactivate Explosive Device in Lagos Ahead of Nationwide Protest

Police have deactivated an explosive device in Lagos ahead of a nationwide protest in Nigeria.

Newsone Nigeria reports that the Lagos State Police Command said its anti-bomb squad had deactivated an improvised explosive device a few hours before the commencement of the anti-government protest in Nigeria, West Africa.

This online news platform understands that the explosive device was deactivated in the Ikeja area of the state, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this on Wednesday night, July 31, 2024.

The Lagos State Police Command Spokesman was, however, unable to give details of the development when filing this report.

Meanwhile, Newsone reports that Nigerian youths, irked by the prevailing economic hardship in the country, scheduled a 10-day nationwide protest to commence on Thursday, August 1. Security agencies, however, had issued security alerts, urging the organisers of the protest to shelve the plan.

When contacted about the deactivation of the explosive device, Hundeyin simply said, “Yes, it happened today.”
