President Tinubu has sacked IGP Kayode Egbetokun.
Newsone Nigeria reports that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reportedly sacked the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, in a major shake-up within the nation’s security leadership.
A report monitored on Premium Times quoted sources disclosed that Egbetokun was asked to step down during a meeting with the President at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Monday, February 24, 2026.
IGP Egbetokun is expected to be replaced by Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, as preparations for a formal handover ceremony are already underway.
Although there has been no official announcement as of press time, insiders within both the Presidency and the Nigeria Police Force confirmed that arrangements are being finalised for the transition.
Egbetokun was appointed as the 22nd Inspector-General of Police by President Tinubu on June 19, 2023, with his appointment later confirmed by the Nigeria Police Council on October 31, 2023.
The removal of IGP Kayode Egbetokun is expected to trigger significant changes within the leadership structure of the police force.
