Tobi Amusan will pocket HiRacer’s $20,000 for winning Silver at Tokyo 2025.
Newsone Nigeria reports that World 100m women’s hurdles record holder, Tobi Amusan, will pocket $20,000 from kits supplier, HiRacer, following her silver medal triumph at the ongoing 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Tonobok Okowa, who disclosed during a meeting held on Monday night in Tokyo with Amusan and the Director General of the National Sports Commission, Bukola Olopade, also emphasised AFN’s renewed dedication to enhancing athletes’ welfare.
At the meeting, Okowa made it clear that there is no personal rift between him and Amusan, describing her as a valuable asset to the federation. Addressing recent reports of a kits-related controversy, Okowa clarified that it was merely a misunderstanding and assured that all issues had been amicably resolved.
According to Okowa, “HiRacer is ready to honour its $20,000 reward to Tobi for her silver medal performance. We are also in advanced talks with the company for a more robust and rewarding kits sponsorship deal,” Okowa stated.
Meanwhile, Newsone recalls that Nigeria’s sprint hurdler, Tobi Amusan, claimed the silver medal in the women’s 100m hurdles at the Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships, clocking an impressive 12.29 seconds in the final.
Competing under the floodlights of the National Stadium, Amusan delivered a strong performance but was edged out by Ditaji Kambundji of Switzerland, who stormed to victory in 12.24 seconds, setting a new Swiss national record.
The bronze medal went to the United States’ Grace Stark in 12.34 seconds, while compatriot Masai Russell finished fourth in 12.44 seconds.
Poland’s Pia Skrzyszowska and the Bahamas’ Devynne Charlton shared fifth place with season’s bests of 12.49, followed by Jamaica’s Danielle Williams (12.53) and the Netherlands’ Nadine Visser (12.56).
The result denied Amusan, the defending champion, a second consecutive world title. Still, it marked a significant achievement for Nigeria, delivering the country’s first podium finish at these championships.

The 28-year-old Nigeria athletic star, Amusan, now adds a silver to her glittering résumé, which includes five national titles, three consecutive Diamond League trophies (2021–2023), and her historic world record of 12.12 seconds set in Eugene in 2022 — a performance that also brought Nigeria its first-ever World Championships gold.
This silver extends Nigeria’s overall tally at the World Championships to 12 medals, with Amusan remaining the only Nigerian athlete to strike gold in the competition’s history.
