1. The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has suspended its five-day warning strike. President of the association, Dr Orji Emeka Innocent, who made this known on Sunday evening, said that the doctors would resume by 8am on Monday.

2. No fewer than nine farmers were killed by bandits at Unguwar Danko near Dogon Dawa village in Birnin Gwari Area of Kaduna State, at the weekend. The incident happened on Saturday afternoon when the victims were working on their farms.

3. Worried by the high influx of migrants, the United Kingdom is set to announce new restrictions that will stop Nigerian students and other nationalities studying in the UK from travelling with their families. According to a report, the crackdown, which will see all masters students and many other post graduates banned from bringing family members over, will be announced this week.

4. The Coalition of Arewa Civil Society Organisations, yesterday, asked the Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa, to resign over corruption allegations hanging in his neck. The coalition, in a statement by its Chairman, Adamu Aminu Musa, noted that Bawa’s resignation at this point was sacrosanct to save the reputation of Nigeria.

5. As the Dangote Refinery begins operations on Monday (today), it was gathered that the 650,000 barrels per day oil processing facility has been designed to process crude oil grades from the three continents of Africa, Asia and America. It was also learnt that the refinery would deliver a surplus of about 38 million litres of petrol, diesel, kerosene and aviation fuel for Nigeria daily.

6. Ahead of today’s ruling on the application for live transmission of the proceedings of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, the Peoples Democratic Party and Labour Party on Sunday said that the live telecast of the court sittings would remove any doubts about the transparency of the judiciary and promote fairness, but the APC argued that it would not advance the course of justice.

7. A former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Godswill Akpabio has called on Nigerians and members of the incoming 10th National Assembly not to assess him using his brief tenure as Minister of Niger Delta Affairs. Akpabio said he preferred to be judged by his record as a lawyer of 36 years, commissioner for six years and a governor for eight years.

8. Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, on Thursday, arrested a drug baron, Charles Ezeh, following the recovery of a consignment of methamphetamine weighing 30.10kg with a street value of N567m. The spokesperson for the agency, Femi Babafemi, revealed this in a statement made available to journalists on Sunday.

9. No fewer than five people were said to have lost their lives in a gas cylinder explosion that rocked Isa, Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Sunday. An eyewitness, Usman Muhammad, who confirmed the explosion, said those killed included two artisans.

10. The outgoing Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-rufai has pointedly told the former governors in the state to swear with the Holy Qur’an that they did not steal public funds while in office. El-rufai stirred the hornet’s nest in his valedictory media chat on the Hausa Service of the Kaduna State Media Corporation (KSMC).
