1. The Presidency yesterday reacted to the comment credited to the Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom alleging that a high ranking security personnel had informed him personally that President Muhammadu Buhari had ordered security forces not to move against the Fulani herdsmen responsible for recent violence, saying that the claim was a lie.
2. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Ilorin Zonal Command, Kwara State, has confirmed the arrest of 13 suspected illegal miners operating in Kakafu village, Patigi Local Government Area of the State. The spokesperson for the agency in the State, Ayodele Babatunde, in a statement, said the suspects were arrested on Tuesday during a joint operation.
3. There was a show of shame on Wednesday at the All Progressives Congress national secretariat when a group of youths loyal to the Presidential Candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, engaged security operatives in a free-for-all over plot to influence the election of the National Association of Nigerian Students by some ‘elements’ allegedly sponsored by the National Chairman of the party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu.
4. The Nigerian Army, made up of troops of 34 Artillery Brigade, in conjunction with troops of the Nigerian Navy, Air Force and other security agencies have killed two alleged members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB). A statement by the Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu said the two assailants had taken position to launch one of their rocket launchers, when they were engaged and taken out by the galant troops.
5. Tragedy has struck in Kaura village in Yabo Local Government Area of Sokoto State as seven family members died after eating breakfast. The head of the family, Malam Danbala told journalists that he lost his two wives and five children to the incident.
6. Former President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, stated how his administration resolved a four-month old strike of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in one day. Speaking on Wednesday in Abuja at the 70th birthday celebration of Matthew Hassan Kukah, Jonathan said himself and all concerned government officials spent a whole night deliberating on the issue with ASUU.
7. The Vice-Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has accused the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, of whipping up sentiments through the church. Okowa, who spoke with reporters in Kano yesterday, said the church should not be dragged into politics.
8. Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, has said all those calling for his resignation from the camp of the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike are children that were not around when the party was formed. In an interview, Ayu vowed not to step down.
9. Some Nigerians who travelled to Dubai were detained at the airport and their passports seized. Few others were seen in a trending video demanding answers after their passports were seized without explanation. Others were seen sitting in an empty area as they waited to know their fate.
10. The scheduled meeting of 21 presidential aspirants of the All Progressives Congress, APC, with Bola Tinubu in Abuja could not hold yesterday due to lack of interest. The roundtable earlier slated for 2pm at Transcorp Hilton, was for the aspirants to come up with viable strategies to support the APC standard bearer, Bola Tinubu, to win the February presidential election.
