Datti Baba-Ahmed has given the condition under which he will contest the 2027 Presidential Election.
Newsone Nigeria reports that Peter Obi’s running mate during the 2023 presidential election, Datti Baba-Ahmed, says he will only contest the 2027 election if Peter Obi does not contest.
Baba-Ahmed, who made this comment on Tuesday night while speaking on Arise TV’s Prime Time, said he would not mind not being on the ticket in 2027 as long as Peter Obi runs for the position of President of Nigeria come 2027.
In 2027, unless certain two people from the south, whom I have tremendous respect for, decide not to take it, and God Almighty in His infinite mercy keeps dropping it for me, except if that happens, I can tell Peter Obi for sure because he is in the game and he contested before, I will support him but if he doesn’t and another from the south that I won’t call his name, if they don’t, otherwise I’m not ambitious,” he said on Arise TV.
The Baze University founder also made it clear he is not yet convinced to join the African Democratic Congress, ADC, a party adopted by the National Opposition parties in Nigeria.
Baba-Ahmed said he would like Peter Obi to win the nomination of Labour Party and contest in 2027, with or without him as the running mate of the former Anambra governor.
“My own thinking is that you should convince me why I should go to ADC. Where was ADC in 2023 when Labour Party got 10 million votes? I’m yet to be convinced to leave LP.
“Labour Party’s arms are open to welcome back Peter Obi. I would like Peter Obi to win the nomination of Labour Party and contest in 2027, with or without me,” he said.
