The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu, has ordered a 24 hours surveillance on the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja and its environs in response to Tuesday’s protest by the Members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), also known as Shiites.

Yaahoo Journalist reports that that police boss gave the order while reacting to the Tuesday’s Shiites protesters attack that left some dead and several injured.

The order by IGP Adamu is to avoid the break down of law and order.

Yaahoo Journalist understands that IGP Adamu’s order was made known in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) in Abuja, DCP Frank Mba.

The police IG said the protest by the group at the National Assembly led to assault and injury to Police personnel on lawful duty as well as wilful damage to public properties.

His words: “The Commissioners of Police and their supervisory Assistant Inspectors General of Police in States contiguous to the FCT are also placed on the alert to ensure maximum security.

“While noting that the force is not against citizens expressing their grouse against the state, the I-G stressed that such ventilation must be done through legitimate and acceptable processes.

“The I-G, therefore, warned that citizens should not test the collective will of the people and the state by engaging in lawless acts likely to cause the breach of the peace,” he said.

IGP Adamu ordered a speedy and diligent investigation into the incident with a view of bringing the persons connected to the incident to book.
