The Governor of Gombe State, Inuwa Yahaya, says the newly formed Economic Advisory Council (EAC) was constituted to only advise President Muhammadu Buhari on economic matters.

YaahooJournalist reports that Governor Yahaya said this after the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting on Thursday.

The NEC comprises of the Vice President, 36 state governors, governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Minister of Finance, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, among others.

Addressing journalists after the NEC, Yahaya said: “Governors requested for clarification from NEC’s chairman-the vice president, on the relationship between NEC and the newly informed Economic Advisory Council.

“And the vice president explained that those councils are advisory for the benefit of the President while NEC is established by the constitution, they are to complement one another.

“He added that NEC could be briefed regularly on the activities of the Economic Advisory Council with the permission of the president.”

Meanwhile, YaahooJournalist recalls that President Muhammadu Buhari constituted an Economic Advisory Council, dissolving the previous one led by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

The Presidency had said that the new team is made up of the following: Prof. Doyin Salami – Chairman; Dr. Mohammed Sagagi – Vice-Chairman; Prof. Ode Ojowu – Member; Dr. Shehu Yahaya – Member; Dr. Iyabo Masha – Member; Prof. Chukwuma Soludo – Member; Mr. Bismark Rewane – Member; Dr. Mohammed Adaya Salisu – Secretary (Senior Special Assistant to the President, Development Policy).

The EAC, the presidency had said, will have monthly technical sessions as well as scheduled quarterly meetings with Buhari.
