INEC Declares Sanwo-Olu Winner of Lagos Governorship Election [Full Results]
Sanwo-Olu has been declared the winner of the Lagos Governorship Election by INEC.
Newsone reports that Babajide Sanwo-Olu has been re-elected as the governor of Lagos State, Nigeria’s commercial city.
This online news platform understands that Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was declared the winner of Saturday’s governorship election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the early hours of Monday.
Newsone Nigeria reports that Sanwo-Olu secured a total of 762,134 votes against his main challengers — Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party (LP) who got 312,329 votes and Olajide ‘Jandor’ Adediran of the PDP who polled 62,449 votes.
INEC Returning officer, Adenike Oladiji, who announced the result said Sanwo-Olu scored 25 percent of the total number of votes and also the highest number of votes in the race.
The INEC Returning officer also said the governor cleared 19 out of the 20 local government areas of the state. She added that the incumbent governor polled the highest number of votes in Ikeja, Apapa, Badagry, Lagos Island, Epe, Agege, Ibeju-lekki, Kosofe, Surulere, and Somolu.
Announcing the result of the election at about, Oladiji who is also the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, said, “I hereby declare that Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, having satisfied the requirements of the law by having 25 per cent of the total of the LGAs of the states and also having the highest number of votes cast and meeting the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner. ”
Meanwhile, Newsone reports that Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party (LP) has rejected the Lagos Governorship Election Results declared by INEC.
