President Tinubu Sacks FIRS Chairman Nami, Appoints Replacement
President Tinubu has sacked FIRS Chairman Nami and appointed a replacement.
Newsone reports that Nigeria’s President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has sacked the chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, FIRS, Muhammad Nami.
This online news platform understands that President Tinubu has appointed his Special Adviser on Revenue, Zacchaeus Adedeji the acting chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
A statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, on Thursday, 14 September 2023, said President Tinubu has appointed Zacch Adedeji as the new Acting Executive Chairman of the FIRS.
The statement reads in full: “President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Hon. Zacch Adedeji as the new Acting Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).
“The President has directed the erstwhile FIRS Chairman, Mr. Muhammad Nami, to proceed on 3 months of pre-retirement leave, as provisioned by Public Service Rule (PSR) 120243, with immediate effect, leading to his eventual retirement from service on December 8, 2023.
“Hon. Zacch Adedeji is hereby appointed in acting capacity for a 90-day period before his subsequent confirmation as the substantive Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service for a term of four (4) years in the first instance.
“Hon. Zacch Adedeji is a first-class graduate in accounting from the Obafemi Awolowo University. He most recently served the nation as the Special Adviser to the President on Revenue, following meritorious service terms as the Oyo State Commissioner of Finance and as the Executive Secretary / CEO of the National Sugar Development Council (NSDC).
“By these directives of the President, the new appointment takes immediate effect,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, Newsone Nigeria reports that the new Acting FIRS Chairman, a former commissioner of finance in Oyo State, will take charge of FIRS and replace Mohammed Nami whose tenure ends in December 2023 and is proceeding on retirement leave.
Adedeji, a consummate financial expert with 15 years of post-qualification experience in financial and general management, was before his appointment as special adviser by Tinubu, the Executive Secretary of the National Sugar Council.
The new FIRS Chairman is a qualified chartered accountant in strategy, accounting and financial management, financial analysis/reporting, internal controls, change management, and people management.
