EBS Calls Out Edo Government Appointees For Dodging Media Engagement

EBS has called out Edo government appointees for dodging media engagement.

Newsone Nigeria reports that the Edo Broadcasting Service (EBS) has raised concerns over the reluctance of certain government appointees to engage with journalists, particularly those from the state-owned media outlet.

The station’s management says this has hindered its ability to provide comprehensive coverage of Governor Monday Okpebholo’s first 100 days in office.

EBS in a strongly worded statement issued on March 6, 2025, emphasized the critical role of the media in promoting transparency and accountability. The management stressed that the public has a right to hear directly from government officials about policies and programs that affect their lives.

“As a government-owned television and radio station, EBS operates with the same standards as private broadcasters,” the statement read. “We will not obscure the truth or cover for any officials, especially when their agencies are under public scrutiny.”

EBS also announced that it will begin documenting all attempts to reach government officials for interviews. Reports will specify the number of outreach efforts made and clearly indicate instances where officials refuse to respond.

The station further praised Governor Okpebholo for his hands-on leadership, noting his frequent inspections of state projects and commitment to public service. However, EBS expressed disappointment that some of his appointees have not demonstrated the same level of transparency and engagement.

EBS called for a renewed commitment to open dialogue between government officials and the media, urging appointees to support the administration’s mission of serving the public interest.

“We believe this situation can be improved, and we look forward to fostering a more collaborative relationship with all government officials,” the statement concluded.
